The super heavy division

Eleven men are registered at super heavy, the 215 pound division. Only one of them, Jefferson Batista of Crow Jiu-Jitsu, appears in the IBJJF adult black belt no-gi ranking, at 44th as of September 29. Galvão does not appear in the top 100, because the ranking only counts results from the last three seasons.

Two of his opponents have recent no-gi podiums at the majors, according to IBJJF results. Lucas Norat of Gracie Barra took silver in this division at last year’s Pan No-Gi and bronze at the 2025 No-Gi World Championship, and Jean Luca Maltese of Alliance took silver at super heavy at the 2024 European No-Gi Championship and silver in the open class there in 2025. Galvão’s Atos teammate Natã Tenca is also entered.
